  1. The history of our city's LBGT community is an important part of the social and cultural history of the city and the North West. Manchester has the United Kingdom's largest LGBT community outside London and is renowned for its Gay Village centred around Canal Street.

    The LGBT source guide is an introduction to archive and printed material held in the Greater Manchester area relating to the history of our city's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

    Printed materials can be found at Central Library. Resources marked with a reference number (e.g. GB123.M456) are available to view in the search room. You will need to make an appointment
