Tracts

  1. Tracts were small booklets or pamphlets that contained ideas or views and were used for religious or political purposes. They were either handed out or put in places for people to find.

  2. What's available

We hold a unique collection of mainly 19th century tracts including:

    • reports from committees
    • parliamentary debates
    • speeches and transactions of learned societies that give a distinct flavour of their era.

  3. How to access

Ask a member of staff in the Central Library search room for the card index which shows a list of items.

You can also look at items from the collection in the search room, please make an appointment (with at least one day notice).
