The Council and democracy Census 2021

The census is a national survey that happens every 10 years and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.

This information helps to plan and fund public services. By taking part in the census, you’ll help make sure your community gets the services it needs.

The next census, which is carried out by the Office for National Statistics, is in March 2021 and can be completed online.

Census 2021 will be the first run mainly online. Your household will soon get a census pack with a unique internet access code, so you can complete the survey on your computer, phone or tablet. Please use it help your city get its fair share of funding for crucial services in the coming decade.

If you have family or neighbours who do not have internet access or skills, please do your bit by letting them know about the forthcoming census and finding out if they need help to complete it.

The census is mandatory and you can be fined if you don't do it. Complete the census if you have your online access code.
