 The Citizenship Ceremony

Under the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002, all applicants aged 18 years or over, who are accepted for naturalisation as British Citizens, must take part in a citizenship ceremony.

The aim of this is to enable applicants to gain a full understanding of the rights and responsibilities that come with British citizenship and to properly welcome them into the British community. There’s no legal requirement for applicants under the age of 18 years to attend a ceremony or take the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance, but if children under 18 years of age wish to attend the ceremony they can.

How to arrange your Citizenship Ceremony

These events take place at Heron House. You will receive an invitation email from the Home Office asking you to book within 14 days but  you don’t need to contact us,as we’ll send you an invitation, by letter or email, once we receive your certificate from the Home Office.

You are expected to attend your ceremony within three months of being sent an invitation from the Home Office.
