Infrastructure support
This is support for voluntary sector organisations, currently provided by Macc who run Volunteer Centre Manchester, provide advice, support and training to groups on issues like governance, finance, volunteering and represent voluntary sector interests on bodies such as the Health and Wellbeing Board.
We have two options for how to do this in the future.
Option 1 - Manchester-wide option
Some or all of this support will continue to be provided Manchester-wide.
Consequences
Perhaps not all organisations will be able to access this, such as very small neighbourhood organisations.
Benefits
There will be a single source of information, so everyone gets the same.
There will be a high level of expertise on issues such as governance
There will be a single point of contact to represent voluntary sector interests
Option 2 - infrastructure support provided through larger organisations
Some or all support will be provided within organisations working in North, Central and South Manchester or at a neighbourhood level. This would be part of their funding agreement.
Consequences
It could be hard to know where to get help
We would need to find new ways for voluntary sector organisations to be represented at city-wide meetings and forums.
We would have to decide if funding for infrastructure support is a separate grant or part of the general grants.
Big organisations would need to have expertise on issues such as volunteering, governance and finance
Benefits
Help could be easier to get for smaller neighbourhood organisations.
