Consultations and surveys Woodhouse Park experimental traffic restriction order consultation

Last year as part of a road closure experiment we asked local people if they’d support proposals to:

  • stop local streets being used as ‘rat-runs’.
  • discourage airport-related parking.
  • improve road safety and traffic flow.

The proposals included specific measures such as:

  • closing Hilary and Kingsgate Roads at their junctions with Selstead Road.
  • parking and waiting restrictions to discourage airport-related street parking.

Most responses we’ve had support the proposals, and we’re writing to let you know that we’ll soon be putting up bollards and barriers to stop traffic entering Selstead Road from Hilary and Kingsgate Roads. The only way for traffic to get to and from Hilary and Kingsgate Roads will be from Cornishway.

We have made some changes to the original proposals, based on feedback from residents and councillors after the initial consultation.

We’ll display legal notices on the roads affected, giving the date the new restrictions come into force – Monday 23 March 2020. From this date, we’ll also start enforcing new restrictions on parking, loading and waiting on local streets.

This is only an experiment – for example, we can remove the bollards, or make the road closure permanent – and over the next six months we’d like your views on whether it’s working.

Have your say
