Other filtered neighbourhoods

Enjoy Waltham Forest

The London borough of Waltham Forest began a filtered neighbourhood scheme - Enjoy Waltham Forest - in 2014. This makes it one of the best established schemes in the UK, and means that it has now been able to prove some of the benefits which the scheme has delivered, including:

  • Increase in walking and cycling
  • Residents were active 41 minutes a week more than those living in other areas
  • Resident reported walking 32 minutes more
  • Most active outer London Borough - 40% of adults walk five times a week.
  • Only outer London borough with more walking and cycling trips than private car trips
  • Number of residents describing themselves as occasional and frequent cyclists has doubled
  • Highest number of people cycling 5 times a week for any outer London Borough
  • Number of houses exposed to more than EU recommended levels of NO2 down form 58,000 in 2007 to 6,300 in 2017
  • Life expectancy increased by 7 months

Levenshulme Bee Network

Levenshulme is another area of the city currently working to create a filtered neighbourhood, and engaging residents to achieve this. We would carry out our consultation in line with the Bee Network’s consultation and engagement best practice guide, and would also hope to link the communities in Levenshulme and Beswick so that they can learn from experience so far.
