Consultations and surveys Alleygating PSPO consultation

This consultation is now closed.

We are consulting on the extension of a number of alley gate Public Spaces Protection Orders(PSPO) within Manchester City Council boundaries.

Purpose of PSPOs

The purpose of the PSPOs is to reduce the occurrence and recurrence of criminal and anti-social activities in the gated alleys and the adjoining areas. The PSPOs prohibit persons from being ‘in’ the restricted areas at all times, subject to exemptions for residents of adjoining properties.  Alternative routes for pedestrians are available through the adjoining street network.

Why we are consulting

On 20 October 2017, ‘Alley gating’ Orders made under the Highways Act 1980 were converted to ‘Public Spaces Protection Orders’ by the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 (‘the Act’). These PSPOs were then valid for three years at which time they would need to be reviewed and consulted on. We are now reviewing the PSPOs to determine whether they should be extended for a further three years.

You can search and view the orders here.
