Consultations and surveys Withington Framework consultation

This consultation has now closed.

Withington Village is a key district centre in south Manchester. We have developed a draft Withington Village Framework as part of a number of community consultation events and stakeholder meetings. It sets out a vision and highlights investment and development opportunities in the village.

The draft Framework shows how the village centre can be a liveable place that meets the needs of its diverse community. It will build on the cultural and physical heritage, offering more services and cultural assets. It highlights how these aims can be achieved using the ‘4Rs'; repositioning, reinventing, rebranding and restructuring.

It includes a series of strategies for:

  • public space
  • movement
  • heritage and streetscape
  • potential projects

Potential projects include:

  • an enhanced public space outside the Library (Rutherford Place)
  • a more pedestrian friendly environment on Copson Street
  • an enhanced public space along Wilmslow Road
  • reviewing the use of public car parks as possible public spaces
  • enhanced gateways to the Village
  • improved walking and cycling routes to the centre from its catchment
  • restored heritage features including enhancing shop fronts and encouraging appropriate development in the Village

We welcome your views on the draft Withington framework as part of the approval process.
