Consultations and surveys Manchester’s Digital Strategy

This consultation closed on 26 March 2021

This strategy aims to get positive, active commitment from the whole city – digital businesses, the Council and universities, and all stakeholders and partners, including our residents – to ‘make a digital difference’. That means embracing and applying digital technology to everything that makes our city work, in ways that will transform the many aspects of the city that make us uniquely Manchester.

We want this ‘digital difference’ to:

  • Focus on ‘smart people’, building each resident’s digital skills, capacities and aspirations so they play an active and fulfilling role in the digital world
  • Provide and sustain jobs, skills and prosperity in a more resilient and inclusive city economy
  • Put technology at the service of people – making it about wider human attributes like wellbeing, happiness and livability – as it improves services, communication and engagement
  • Help us thrive and grow to inclusive, post-pandemic recovery.

We think

Manchester is at a critical point in our digital transformation journey.

We see

An urgent need to move forward – with all our partners, in a much more joined-up way than ever.

We know

That it is important for Manchester to become a leading smart city – with a new overall plan that ties together our commitment to ‘smart people’, digital places and future prosperity.

Our city already has a very strong digital sector and ‘ecosystem’ -- a talent pool already central to the city ‘s economic success, with great potential to grow further. We won’t sit still on this – we will build on it to lead the next wave of progress.

We see this strategy as that new, dynamic way forward.
