Limiting what we use your personal information for

You have the right, in some circumstances, to ask us to limit what we use your personal information for.

When you ask for the use of your personal information to be limited, this means it can't be used, other than:to securely store the personal information itself and if one of the following applies:

  • with your consent
  • to handle legal claims,
  • To protect another person or
  • where it's for reasons of important public interest.

You have the right to ask us to stop using your personal information for any council service, where:

  • you have questioned the accuracy of the personal information and we need to look into this
  • you do not agree with the way your personal information is being processed but you don’t want us to delete it.
  • we no longer need the data but you require it in connection with a legal claim
  • you have objected to us using your data and we need to check whether we have compelling, legitimate grounds for using the information.

If one of these situations applies, we will limit using your personal information, tell you that we are doing so, and securely store the information. However, this may cause delays or prevent us delivering specific services to you.

If we need to lift a restriction that applies to your information, we will let you know.
