The Meadow (Southern Cemetery)

Map, opening times, transport information, and other detailed information about Southern Cemetery

The Meadow provides an undisturbed place of rest in a natural setting at Southern Cemetery, for full burials or the burial of cremated remains.

The Meadow burials offer an environmentally friendly and cost effective alternative to traditional funerals, at a site that is managed to encourage native wildlife, plants and wild flowers.

A small plaque with a grave number will be placed by us to identify the grave location, but no memorialisation is allowed on the graves (except for floral tributes for seven days after interment.)  For more permanent memorials, a further range is also available.

As part of the Meadows burial facility we are able to offer:

  • A grave for interments of two people and ashes interments
  • A natural, peaceful place with a wildlife habitat for family and friends to visit.
  • A religious or secular burial.
  • The option of using the chapel within the Cemetery grounds, or a graveside service
  • The option to use an electric vehicle to transport the coffin and mourners to the graveside in The Meadow.

A range of memorial products including:

  • Sandstone remembrance plaques located on a natural stone rock
  • Bird boxes
  • Memorial benches
  • Entries in the Book of Remembrance
  • A range of other products.
