Social services Equipment and adaptations to help you live independently

We fund lots of things — large and small — to keep people living independently, at home. This is a free service.

  • Equipment to make life easier, day-to-day. If you know what you want, or it's just a simple piece of equipment (for your kitchen or bathroom, for example) we can sometimes arrange it by phone, deliver it, or have it ready to collect. Or we'll come and see you at home to help assess what you need.
  • Minor adaptations to keep you doing things for yourself. We fund simple changes such as lever taps, handrails and half-steps that make it safer and easier to use your home. Just get in touch to arrange this free service.
  • Major adaptations. You can get changes in your home such as ramps, walk-in showers, wet rooms and stairlifts through a Disabled Facilities Grant. Call us and we'll come to discuss what you need.

There could be lots of other things to help you keep doing what you do, your way, including alarms to let someone know if you need help. Just call us to discuss on 0161 234 5001 or email socialcare@manchester.gov.uk
