Libraries Mobile Library Service

Important News

Please note that the mobile library street-stop service has now ended.

Our research has shown that a large number of street-stop mobile library customers also use library buildings and we know that nearly 97% of Manchester homes are now within a mile of their local library. We have worked hard to make more library content available online, including free eBooks and audio books, reference materials and library account management (catalogue searches, renewals and reservations), so visiting and borrowing from the library is now easier than ever.

If you are a mobile library customer, you can return loans to the mobile library as usual during October, or to any other Manchester library. Your membership is valid in every library, so you can borrow items from, or return them to wherever is most convenient - have a look at the list of libraries on the back page, or if you visit the mobile library in October, we'll give you details of what's in your area. You can also renew items online or by phone. If you haven't visited a library building recently, you're in for a pleasant surprise - you'll find a large selection of books, including audio and large print, plus films and music, computers and social events.

If you are an existing Home Visit or Sheltered Accommodation customer, there may be a slight break in your service while we re-organise our delivery schedule. We will be in touch with more detail nearer the time.

If you are an existing Reading Voyager customer: the children's mobile library will no longer be able to visit you, but you may be able to apply for the new delivery service. We will be in touch shortly about this.

If you cannot get to a branch library because of mobility problems, you may be able to use our new delivery service. Please email us at mobilelibraries@manchester.gov.uk or call 0161 227 3800 with your name, address and daytime telephone number.

We'd like to thank you for your custom and support over the years and look forward to welcoming you to our branch libraries or as customers for our new delivery service.
