Libraries Library services for visually impaired people

Our libraries offer services for those with a visual impairment, including:

  • Advice on stock which is available in an accessible format, i.e. spoken word, large print or e-book;
  • Information on specialist libraries such as CALIBRE, Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) libraries and the ebook library;
  • Computers with Supernova software, used to magnify text or convert it to speech, giving access to standard Microsoft products and the Internet;
  • Extended time allowance using computers.

We also offer additional services at North City Library and Central Library to help you access information independently or with the help of library staff, who can help with copying or printing (specific costs apply for copying & printing).

Books to Go provides a home delivery service for Manchester residents. If you have limited mobility, a visual impairment or any difficulty leaving your home, get further information and apply online.
