Libraries Summer Reading Challenge

Silly Squad –  The digital Summer Reading Challenge 2020

The Summer Reading Challenge is the biggest annual reading promotion for children and this year (for the first time ever) it’s going digital!

The challenge to read and enjoy books is still the same, but we’re pulling out all the stops to get you involved in new ways.  For 2020, Silly Squad is all about funny books, happiness and having a laugh.

The challenge is simple - join the Challenge online and start reading books. The books don’t have to be library books this year - they can be ones you have at home, ones you borrow from your family and friends or any of our eBooks and eAudiobooks from BorrowBox.  See the Manchester libraries blog for instructions on how to download BorrowBox if you haven’t done so already, or if you’re good to go, get searching our collection!

The Challenge starts 5 June and runs all through the summer.

Manchester Libraries have a full programme of online events and activities to support the Challenge.  Launched by award winning children’s author, Nick Sharratt on 1 July, there will be nine weeks of online story times, arts, competitions and silly stuff to inspire you to keep on reading!

Showcase your talent and win with our Silly Squad competitions!

Our book review competition is back again this year, so get reading and sharing those book reviews with us.  There will be four lucky winners who will receive a bundle of new books and a Kindle Fire. We’re also introducing the new 'The Silly Squad made me do it!' competition which invites you to get creative with our Silly Squad artists, authors and storytellers. Every week we’ll select a winner and send them a brand new book. Your writing/pictures/creations might also appear on our facebook page in our Summer Reading Challenge Special Showcase! Read more about both competitions.

Download a book review template and the terms and conditions for this years competition.

For all the information about Silly Squad, including the activity programme, please see the Manchester Libraries blog.
