Planning and regeneration Commenting on planning applications

Other publicity we give to applications

As well as notifying neighbours, we have to give extra publicity to some planning applications.

Major development proposals are publicised by placing a notice in the Manchester Evening News and by displaying a site notice. A Major development is one involving:

  • a housing development of 10 or more dwellings or on a site of 0.5 hectares or more
  • a development creating 1000 square metres or more floorspace or on a site of 1 hectare or more
  • mineral working or waste development

We also place an advertisement in the Manchester Evening News and display a site notice for the following:

  • applications which are accompanied by an environmental statement
  • applications which do not accord with the Council's development plan
  • applications which would affect a public right of way
  • development affecting the setting of a listed building
  • development affecting the character or appearance of a conservation area
  • applications for listed building consent
