Environmental problems Industrial and commercial pollution

We are responsible for permitting and controlling specified industrial installations that require a permit to regulate their environmental impact and emissions to air. We also regulate biomass boilers and the chimney height of industrial boilers/ furnaces to minimise their potential impacts on local air quality.

Industrial processes that require permitting fall under different parts. The larger installations (Part A1), such as power stations and chemical works are regulated by the Environment Agency (external link). Smaller installations (Part A2 or B) are regulated under permits issued by the local authority.

We hold public registers for the industrial processes and businesses, such as dry cleaners and petrol filling stations operating in Manchester and hold either Part A2 or Part B environmental permits.

You should notify us of the relocation of a mobile crusher.
