Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and we all have to play a role in improving it.

This week is National Road Safety Week and we are working with a number of schools and partners in order to deliver road safety activities for the children.

This year’s theme is ‘Bike Smart’, teaching children practical skills and giving them the understanding and expertise to cycle on our roads.

In Manchester we are very fortunate to have the input of Greater Manchester’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, Chris Boardman, to try and make cycling and walking the first choice for the school run in Manchester.

Walking or cycling to school improves fitness and health as well as independence and life skills for older children Reducing traffic will also improve the air quality around our schools.

Today we are going to show you some examples of where schools are actually getting more children to walk and cycle to school and we are also going to show you how we enforce against the irresponsible drivers that a parking outside schools.
