The Council and democracy Social Value

Social values in action

Social value is an important factor for us when we decide on any contract or contractor. We want social value that will bring about real change to our residents’ and communities’ daily lives.
Here are some examples of recently completed social value projects.

Rosgal Social Value Project at Chorlton FC

Rosgal completed the work at Chorlton FC as part of their social value commitment.

Excavation of wooded, flood prone public access area, and installation of new footpath for the public to access the football pitch. The work involved:

  • Provision of Site set-up
  • Provision of safe working area with barriers, fencing where required.
  • Excavation to formation level
  • Base Course type 1 reclaimed stone
  • Imported stone for footway area topcoat
  • Crush and run stone for footpath, including 12 metres of drainage   Regrade area around footway with excavated material.

For the club it's a massive step forward. Their spokesperson said:

‘We committed to improving our parking arrangements and the path establishes a safe and accessible route. It can really make an impact on the local community by reducing cars on match days as the Hardy Farm Car Park will now be the main parking area for fans.

There will be a noticeable difference providing a much better experience for spectators.

The path also provides a safe route for local walkers around the meadows and accessing Hardy Lane to Chorltonville.

We thank Rosgal for their support in delivering this project for us.’

Chapel Street planting day in Levenshulme

The Community action day on Chapel Street had the aim to revitalise the grassy area, refresh planters, and build some bee hotels. The request was for a tonne of compost and for the three planters to be emptied and the original soil removed. Rosgal's kindly offered to support and with their amazing team they were able to meet all our needs and make the whole process very simple.

Manchester Council’s spokesperson said:

‘The initial brief was to turn an unloved greenspace on Chapel Street into a loved biodiversity piece of land - a beautiful greenspace with a focus on nature and wellbeing.

As is often the case, our budget was challenging, and the land required lots of work. We needed plants, a tonne of soil, and help removing existing soil and gardening materials.

Rosgal stepped up and has gone the extra mile to support this project. Whatever they promise they deliver. Kerry and her team have gone out of the way to support the project.

Firstly, they've collected the three large planters and emptied them and brought them back.

Secondly, they've supplied a tonne of soil so the project could be completed.

I cannot speak highly enough of Kerry and the team.’

Northern Quarter planters and Pocket Park Social Value Project

Rosgals have recently completed work on the planters on Thomas Street as part of their Northern Quarter social value commitments. The planters were rotten and collapsing so Rosgals operatives helped clear the area and rebuild the planters which are now ready for painting and replanting.

They have helped create a pocket park in a disused area of greenspace on St John’s Road adjacent to the multi-story carpark.  Rosgals have cleared the area, disposing of all excavated material and replaced it with top-soil.
