Consulting with local people
This consultation has now closed
We held two drop-in events at the Longford Centre so local people could tell us what they think and ask questions before we submitted our planning application.
Residents could also give their views by commenting on the planning application.
We held drop in events, rather than a large public meeting, so people could sit down and discuss the issues with our staff. We sometimes find that people don’t like to make their comment as part of a large crowd, and we wanted to hear what everyone had to say.
People said they were concerned about the rear garden at the centre directly overlooking the footpath running next to the centre to Meadow Court. We’ve now included a taller fence in the planning application.
People said they were concerned about the level of begging in the centre of Chorlton. Our neighbourhood staff are working with the police on this issue.
People said they wanted a regular monthly meeting between the centre manager and local representatives. If the centre goes ahead the manager will set this up. Their contact details will be available online too if anyone wants to report a problem.
Some people asked about volunteering to help. If the centre goes ahead we will look at how we can involve people.
Some concerns were raised about antisocial behaviour. The centre will have CCTV, in other supported housing schemes this has helped reduce crime. Stopping an empty building becoming derelict will also have a positive effect on the area.
