Libraries What we have for children in libraries

Five to twelve year olds

Libraries are great! This is a fantastic time to come and explore them. There are stories of all kinds, rhymes and poetry, and factual books on just about every subject you can imagine and not forgetting joke books!

  • Beginner readers will find a wide variety of easy to read books, look out for series like Titchy Witch by Rose Impey or The Scaredy Cats series by Shoo Rayner.
  • Fluent readers are spoilt for choice, there are stories to suit all tastes, from classics to new novels from the best of today's children's authors.
  • We have a huge range of non-fiction books too, to help with homework, teach you magic tricks to amaze your friends or find out fantastic facts from the Horrible Histories series.
  • Can't find the book you want? Library staff are always happy to help you find your favourite authors and books. You can also order any book from another library for free.

Things to do

Every holiday there are events on in a library near you, they are all free and great fun. We have learnt how to make balloon animals, draw cartoons, make artist creations from funky foam. Check out what is happening at your local library in the next holidays to see what we are doing.

If you have a library ticket you can use a computer in the library, log onto the internet and check out your favourite sites or play CD Rom games, all for free.

  • Some libraries have areas where you can listen to CD's, if not, all libraries have CD's for you to borrow and some even have PlayStation games for you to take home!

Come in and relax, meet new friends, read a magazine, chill with us in the library.
