Planning and regeneration Additional Planning Guidance

Disabled access

An important aspect of the planning process is to ensure that proposed developments are accessible to everyone, including disabled people. The Council's vision, set out in our Access 2000 strategy, is that Manchester should be the most accessible city in Europe.

When submitting a planning application, it is important that you show how your proposed development will accommodate disabled people. You may be required to include a statement on disabled access that covers access into and throughout the development, in accordance with the Design for Access 2 guidelines, the Council's manual of inclusive design standards.

Using the guidelines, the Planning Access Team comments on private and in-house planning applications to ensure that they meet the design requirements.

If you require further information or guidance in relation to disabled access please contact the Planning Access team on 0161 234 4598 or 0161 234 4032 or by email to planning.access@manchester.gov.uk.
