The Council and democracy Northern Quarter closures and traffic-flow changes

Stevenson Square

Work to fix issues with the pedestrian area and cycle route in Stevenson Square is due to restart shortly and be completed by the end of March.

The project creates a public square, in keeping with the unique look and feel of the Northern Quarter, with a walking and cycling route passing through.

Several defects are being addressed, and the final improvements will include:

  • Resurfacing carriageway and footways

  • Relocation of street furniture and features to encroach less on the cycle route

  • A site visit and review by the Highways Access Group to ensure that features are user-friendly for everybody

  • Dropped kerbs to allow access for adapted cycles to cycle parking

Discussions are also ongoing with Transport for Greater Manchester and Urban Traffic Control to review crossing facilities after concerns were raised about accessibility.

If you have any questions or concerns about this work, email them to: nqwalkingcycling@manchester.gov.uk

Any updates to traffic management will be detailed on the Traffic Management page
