Your priorities: care for vulnerable people

When we consulted on our three-year budget up to 2020, people were clear – they did not want cuts that made it harder for people who may be vulnerable due to poor health, disability or difficult circumstances to live as independently as possible.

We listened and responded, making essential services for adults a priority.

Alongside protecting this funding, we’ve been targeting investment to speed up new ways of working, in partnership, that get better results and stop some people needing these services in the first place.

This year we're spending over £157million on adult social care services and employing 1,440 people to deliver them, including:

£21.199million giving the best possible care, close to home and family, when it’s needed. This may be help with basic daily needs such as washing, or it may be in a nursing home with medical professionals available 24 hours a day.

£21.416million care and support for people with mental health needs.

£39.871million for accommodation, nursing, care, budgets and services to meet personal needs of people with learning disability.

£27.296million for public health budgets including professional support for those whose lives have been damaged by drug and alcohol abuse and the many other problems we aim to help people recover from and move on with their lives.

£2.259million making sure adults at risk of abuse and neglect can live in safety, including victims of domestic violence.

£9.099million supported accommodation for vulnerable people.
