The Council and democracy The draft budget proposals 2017-20

Recycling

Increase recycling, saving up to £2.2million over three years. Changes we've already made to the size of bins will save £1.3million next year. We would save another £900,000 a year by working with people to recycle more and put less into grey bins.

What people said when we asked about this between 3 November and 15 December 2016

People said:

Seventy-six percent agreed or strongly agreed. The main reasons were to protect the environment and save money for other vital services. The main reason for disagreeing was that current bins are too small. Some who disagreed felt it would encourage more fly tipping.

Final consultation

Further consultation between January 3 and February 10, 2017 included a questionnaire asking one question "Please give any final views and comments about the proposed budget". This proposal drew most comments with 22% saying that cuts should not be made.

We said:

This became a budget proposal.

Consultation on our proposed budget closed on 10 February 2017. We listened hard and considered all responses before finally setting our budget at our council meeting on 3 March.

Thanks to the thousands who joined the conversation.
