Road and pavement improvements

We’re investing in what you care about. You told us that fixing the city’s roads was one of your top priorities, so in response to this, we’re investing £100m to improve the city’s roads. This is a five year plan that will be completed in 2022.

£80m will be used for resurfacing and other maintenance designed to fix potholes and to stay on top of repairs. A further £20 million will support other roads and maintenance schemes. Read about the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040.

Our roads have been surveyed by engineers and those most in need of repair are being worked on as a priority. Roads will either receive a new surface or the existing surface will be resealed, preventing water damage which causes potholes. It can also extend its life by up to 20 years.

Around £1.5m is also being invested in repairing drainage gullies and pipework, which will help to prevent potholes by reducing the levels of water damage to roads.
Repair work is being focused in different areas of the city at different times to minimise disruption.
