Roads and transport Play Streets policy

Managing traffic

While a road is closed to through traffic any residents who need access to drive in or out of the street will still be able to do so. It would be expected that one of the event volunteers acting as a “traffic marshal” will guide the vehicle safely. A useful video of how to guide vehicles in and out of the street can be seen on the Playing Out website: 4 Step Guide to Play Street Sessions

It is a legal requirement that traffic signs are in place at the entrance and exit points of the street for the whole time that the street is closed.

These road closed signs will alert motorists that there is no through route and provide a physical barrier to vehicles. There may also be the need to place traffic diversion signs for some roads.

We will assist event organisers in obtaining the road signs as well as traffic cones.
