Roads and transport Play Streets guidance

Before applying

What is a Play Street Order?

A Play Street (Manchester) Order is a Traffic Regulation Order issued by Manchester City Council that enables residents to legally close a residential road to through traffic for a short period of a few hours to allow street play, physical activity or promote clean air.

Regular road closures will need the approval of the Department of Transport, who will need at least four weeks to make a decision. To apply for this special order residents should contact their Neighbourhood team by emailing playstreets@manchester.gov.uk. They will submit the application for approval from the Department of Transport. This only applies where there are regular closures; not for one off events.

We have put together a Play Street policy which we ask all applicants to read before applying.
