Area 2 - Upper Chorlton Road, from Brooks Bar to Seymour Grove
More than 1,800 miles of routes with 400 miles of Dutch-style segregated bike lanes will form The Bee Network, the UK’s largest joined-up network for walkers and cyclists. The routes will connect every community in Greater Manchester and make cycling and walking an easy alternative to car travel.
The measures will create a route that creates large sections of segregation between people travelling on foot or by bike and traffic.
We’re doing this by improving our connections across the city to support long-term, sustainable economic growth and access to opportunities for all; the work also ties in with the Greater Manchester 2040 Transport Strategy
Following the consultation and engagement events we carried out between November 2018 and January 2019, we have listened to your feedback, adjusted our plans and can now share the latest details with you.
The Plan
This phase, which runs from Brook's Bar (the junction of Moss Lane East and Upper Chorlton Road) down to the junction with Seymour Grove, will involve:
- building a new CYCLOPS junction at Brooks Bar
- creating segregated cycle lanes along both sides of the route
- maintaining access to off-street parking
- introducing cycle bypasses at existing bus stops, where possible
- tightening side-road junctions to reduce speeds
- increasing wildflower planting at Kings Road junction
- introducing traffic-calming speed tables at existing traffic island locations
- providing cycle lanes at the rear of existing parking bays
- introducing new parking restrictions to keep cycle lanes clear of parked vehicles.
Another outcome of the previous consultation is that we have changed the design to avoid having to use no-right-turn or no-left-turn restrictions in the area. The map shows where these measures will be located. Work is due to start on-site this year.
