Roads and transport Manchester to Chorlton Cycle Way

We’re committed to improving our connections across the city to support long-term, sustainable economic growth and access to opportunities for all, and to make transport across the city healthier and cleaner; this ties in with the Greater Manchester 2040 transport strategy.

The Manchester to Chorlton Walking and Cycleway scheme is part of that commitment: read about the consultation and results.

Area 1a - Chorlton Road, from Chester Road to Stretford Road

  • The first section of the Manchester to Chorlton cycleway is now open, and runs between Chester Road roundabout and Stretford Road
  • This section of the route includes the UK's first CYCLOPS junction (Cycle Optimised Protected Signals) - an innovative junction that has been designed to protect cyclists from general motor traffic, while allowing everyone to use the junction safely
  • The CYCLOPS junction maximises the opportunities for safe cycling and walking, while making the performance of the junction more efficient for all users and transport types

This scheme is part funded by the Greater Manchester Growth Deal.
