Mersey Valley and Stockport Cycleway
We want to improve this riverside route for walkers and cyclists, opening up the Mersey Valley to all. The stretch from Manchester Road, East Didsbury, going east along the river and the M60 is rough and unsurfaced at the moment, and gets waterlogged. You can only get there on foot, down steps, so we'll build a ramp down to the river from Manchester Road with gates to stop motorbikes and a weatherproof path going east to join the path proposed by Stockport Council along the river and M60.
On Manchester Road/Wilmslow Road we'll widen the pathway on the east side to make a shared cycleway and footpath from the river leading down towards The Alexandra Hospital.
We'll cut the speed limit on Manchester Road to 30mph between Kingsway and the river.
