Bins, rubbish and recycling

Last updated 8.37am, Wednesday 8 April

Bin collections

This week, from Monday 6 April to Friday 10 April, we will empty green garden and food recycling bins, instead of brown bins.

This will be a one-off final collection until we are in a position to resume a full service. This is in response to residents' feedback.

Brown bin collections will stop temporarily from 6 April to 10 April. Please put your green bin out on your normal bin collection day for that week.

While maintaining a safe distance, please let any friends, family, or neighbours without internet access know about the current arrangements.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we deal with an unprecedented situation.

Ordering bins, boxes and bags

Until further notice we are not taking orders for green garden and food recycling bins, kitchen caddies or caddy liners.

Tips and recycling centres

Following government advice, all tips in Greater Manchester are closed until further notice.

You may have extra bags of rubbish if you are spending more time at home. Please make every effort to recycle all that you can -  see what you can recycle at home

Our crews are working hard to make sure all rubbish is removed. It takes more time to remove extra waste and we want to make sure we get to every home. Please keep extra waste to a minimum - please do not put out larger items, such as furniture and electrical items.

Thank you for making the effort not to create extra waste, this includes not clearing out unwanted household items, furniture and garden waste - this is not essential and can wait.

Please do not leave any waste outside the Tips or Recycling Centres – leaving waste outside the centres or anywhere else is classed as fly tipping and is a criminal offence for which people will be prosecuted.

Bulky waste collections

Our staff are working hard to complete existing bookings for bulky waste collections and you will be contacted if there are any further changes - no new bulky waste removal bookings will be taken until further notice.

Disposing of tissues and cleaning materials

If you have Coronavirus symptoms, personal waste, such as used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths, should be stored securely in a tied bag and placed inside another bag. This should then be kept separate from your other rubbish for 72 hours.

After 72 hours please place the bags containing the personal waste into your usual outdoor household bin. This is to protect staff when collecting rubbish.
