COVID-19 COVID-19 businesses and employers

Workplace COVID-19 testing for Manchester businesses

If your employees are not able to work from home, they can have rapid testing twice a week.

Retail and hospitality businesses planning for winter may be interested in testing to reduce the risk of transmission, reassure staff and customers and enable business continuity.

The tests are for people who do not have COVID-19 symptoms but could still spread the virus without knowing they have it. Lateral flow devices (LFD) are used, which involve a swab of the nose and throat – and these can give a result within half an hour because it does not require sending off to a lab for analysis.

Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms should book a test online at or by phone 119.

How do I get access to testing?

There are two routes to access the testing:

Apply with the Government’s testing scheme

About 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 do not have symptoms but can still infect others.

You should do a rapid test twice a week (every 3 to 4 days) to check if you have the virus. If people test positive and self-isolate, it helps stop the virus spreading.

Even if you’re vaccinated, there’s still a chance you can pass COVID-19 on, so you should keep getting tested regularly.

You can then:

The Lateral Flow Device (LFD) testing can rapidly detect the virus in 30 minutes of the testing taking place. By taking part in the testing programme, you are helping to break chains of transmission and suppress the virus.

Employees who test positive should:

  • Report the results directly to the NHS

  • Advise their employer of a positive result

  • Take a confirmatory PCR test

If this process is unavailable to you we would suggest using local test sites instead.

Employers with fewer than 10 people and anyone who lives and works in Manchester who can’t work from home and whose organisations (employers) don’t have an asymptomatic testing system in place can access regular testing through Manchester’s asymptomatic testing programme, with dedicated sites across the city.

Appointments need to be booked.

You can book an appointment by;

  • Or by calling 0800 0924020
