Additional Restrictions Support Grant (ARG)
The Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) provides local councils with grant funding to support closed businesses that do not directly pay business rates, as well as businesses that do not have to close but which are severely impacted.
Applications can only be made through the online form.
You only need to make one application for an ARG. We will use the information from your original application to assess you for any further grants, as long as you continue to meet the criteria, we will automatically pay a grant to the bank account in your original application.
Yous should only submit an application for an ARG if:
- You have suffered serious hardship because the businesses you deal with have had to close and you have a Business Rates Liability (this includes businesses that have nothing to pay due to Small Business Rates Relief): or
- You have been required to close and do not have a Business Rates liability.
ARG claims for the period 5 August to 4 November 2020
The Additional Restrictions Support Grant (ARG) scheme in Manchester covers the period from 5 August to 4 November 2020 when Greater Manchester was under increased local restrictions equivalent to Local COVID-19 Alert Level: High (Tier 2).
We are considering backdated applications for this scheme in the first instance from the hospitality sector, hotels, B&Bs and leisure services, as directed by the Government. We will consider these businesses first using details from their application for the closed and national scheme. Businesses only need to claim once, but they will receive two separate payments.
As the funding that we receive from the Government is based on the number of these types of businesses in the city, we will deal with grant payments to these businesses first.
If there is any funding left after this allocation, we will open the scheme up more widely and invite applications from other businesses that may have been affected during this period.
Businesses occupying hereditaments with a rateable value on the date of the commencement of the local restrictions:
- of exactly £15,000 or under may receive a grant of up to £934 per 28-day period
- over £15,000 and less than £51,000 may receive a grant of up to £1,400 per 28-day period
- of exactly £51,000 or above may receive a grant of up to £2,100 per 28-day period
Grant payments after 15 February 2021
The Government guidelines for the payment of Local Restriction Support Grant and Additional Restriction Grants only allow us to make payments for the period up to 15 February 2021.
We are currently awaiting further guidance from the Government before we can make grant payments after this date.
The Government is due to announce their 'road map' for the easing of COVID-19 restrictions on 22 February and we expect to receive guidance for grant payments a week after this date. If you still qualify for a grant payment, we will make automatic payments into bank accounts. Businesses do not need to apply again.
