Homes and property New licensing area proposals 2021

Our past work

Background

In 2017 and 2018 the council introduced four pilot selective licensing schemes in areas of Crumpsall, Moston, Moss Side and Old Moat. Licensing has helped the council with enforcing property and management standards in these areas which have a high concentration of private rented properties.  A report to the Neighbourhoods and Environment Scrutiny Committee on 4 March 2020 on the current selective licensing schemes sets out some of the potential impacts of selective licensing, as well as the positive outcomes.

Proposals and consultation undertaken in the past

In January 2021 we wrote to residents, landlords, businesses and stakeholders asking them to engage in an initial consultation process about the potential to introduce ‘selective licensing’, a 12-week pre-consultation exercise was undertaken between January 20 and 14 of April 2021.

We would like to thank everyone who was able to participate by completing either the online questionnaire and/or attending one of the virtual drop-in sessions.

Next steps

We have launched a formal consultation, taking on board comments made and making information more easily available. We would also like to undertake in person (physical engagement at) drop-in sessions as well as undertaking door knocking exercises in the areas concerned.

If you have already provided comments, we will have received these and they will be taken into account in our overall decision, however you can and may still wish to add additional views to this current consultation.
