Parks, leisure and the arts Deansgate/Peter Street Conservation Area

Control of development

Most work to construct, alter, extend or demolish buildings in conservation areas requires consent from the local authority. In this area there have been occasional gaps in the built frontage where buildings have been demolished before designation of the conservation area. Generally such gap sites should be developed so that the linear 'street wall' character is reinstated. Whatever building type is constructed it should be of a high standard of design in order to maintain the quality of the urban environment.

All development proposals should demonstrate recognition of the characteristics of the conservation area as described here.
