Parks, leisure and the arts Old Broadway Conservation Area

Improvement and enhancement

It is not envisaged that any major redevelopments will take place in the foreseeable future, indeed the main aim of the designation is to ensure that the character and quality of both the buildings and the spaces between them is retained.

The owners of properties will be encouraged to replace like for like when considering repairs to walls, roofs, windows and mouldings. It is essential that artificial materials for windows and walls are not employed and that existing brick and stone elements are not painted.

A significant improvement to the area's character would be made if the street lighting were replaced with a type designed to complement the Arts and Crafts qualities of the buildings.

Vehicles need to be kept off the central grassed area, but this should not be done using white painted horizontal boarding. A more appropriate solution would be to use bollards of other devices which employ either brick or stone.
