Introduction
Situated approximately three miles east of the city centre, the conservation area at Gore Brook Valley in Gorton is centred on a semi-rural area which has enjoyed human settlement for possibly 5,500 years. The boundary encompasses properties fronting on to Sunny Brow Park and land around Far Lane and Tan Yard Brow.
Initially rural in character, the area came to represent the development of the industrialised city in the 19th Century.
In 1971, the City Council approved an outline planning strategy for Gorton, which put forward the idea of developing the Gore Brook Valley Park into an informal open space linking Sunny Brow Park in the west with Debdale Park in the east, along the line of the Gore Brook. The conservation area was designated by the City Council on 22 December 1993.
