Parents of children due to start in reception class at primary school next September are reminded they only have until 15th January to apply for their child’s place.
An application must be made for all pupils needing a reception class place. Current attendance at a school nursery doesn’t guarantee admission to that school’s reception class – an application must still be made.
The easiest way to apply is on-line at: www.manchester.gov.uk/
Parents are encouraged to make at least three preferences when they make their application, and to rank their preferred schools to show which would be their first, second, third preference and so on.
Manchester operates an equal preference system to allocate places – meaning each of the preferences parents list will be considered at the same time. If this shows a place could be offered at more than one school, the child will be offered a place at the school ranked highest on their application.
Parents must make sure they get their applications in before the deadline to be in with the best chance of being offered a place at one of their preferred schools.
Councillor Garry Bridges, Executive Member for Children and Schools, Manchester City Council, said: "Going to school for the first time is an important milestone in every child's life, so parents will want to get it right, but they need to act now.
“Go online, have a look at the schools available and what they can offer your child and then make your application - but don’t miss the January deadline.
"Applying on time is vital as late applications aren't dealt with until after all on-time applications, and parents who send in late applications stand far less chance of getting a place for their child at one of their preferred schools."
Applications can also be made by post or in person. All applications must however be received by the deadline of 5 pm on Wednesday 15 January 2020.
School place offers will be sent out to parents and carers on National Offer Day, 16 April next year.
