The Council is urging people to remain vigilant against Covid-19 as more businesses in the hospitality industry plan to reopen this week.

Last week (Saturday 4 July) saw the national ease of lockdown regulations across the country, which encouraged many to enjoy their first night out since the outbreak of the global pandemic in March.
A major police operation was in place last weekend to support businesses as they began to reopen and a similar police presence will be seen this coming weekend.
The vast majority of businesses managed social distancing measures well and adhered to guidelines to keep their customers safe.
Footway widening and pedestrianisation schemes have also been installed in the city centre and local district centres to help people keep their distance from others.
Cllr Pat Karney, Manchester’s City Centre spokesperson, said: “I was really pleased to see how smooth the reopening of the city’s bars and restaurants was last week. Everyone worked together to keep us all safe and I hope to see the same this weekend.
“Although it’s encouraging that we are seeing a more normal Manchester returning, it doesn’t mean that we’re out of the woods yet. Think about your family members and those who might be more vulnerable than yourself. Think that you might be exposing loved ones to risk if you don’t stay safe yourself.
“So please have a great time - but do so responsibly and follow the guidelines put in place to limit the potential spread of the virus.”
Cllr Angeliki Stogia, Manchester City Council’s executive member for environment, planning and transport, said: “Last weekend we saw businesses and people enjoying a long-awaited night out working together to follow guidelines. We’re building on lessons from last weekend as we expect more people to come into the city or visit their local pub and restaurants over the next few days.
“Our licensing team and out-of-hours enforcement team will be out again at the weekend making sure businesses continue to follow the rules so that we can reassure people that they are as safe as possible while enjoying themselves.
“With more people sitting outside, please be considerate to the people who live nearby. We all have a responsibility to be good neighbours and keep the noise to a minimum.
“And be sure to plan your night, know how you are going to travel across the city safely and how you are going to get home. And wear a face covering while on public transport.”
