Councillor Tommy Judge, Manchester City Council's New Lord Mayor
Manchester City Council have today appointed a new Lord Mayor for the City, Cllr Tommy Judge. Cllr Judge was first elected in 2001 to serve the people of Sharston, Wythenshawe.
Since his appointment Cllr Judge has served in many different capacities for Manchester City Council. Most notably as the Assistant Executive Member for Education, and Vice-Chair of the former Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority.
He has also served on various committees including the Resource and Governance Scrutiny Committee, Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee, Communities and Equalities Scrutiny Committee, Health Scrutiny Committee, Licensing and Appeals Committee, and the former Wythenshawe Area Consultative Committee. He is delighted to hold the post of Armed Forces Champion for Manchester.
Cllr Judge has said that whilst Lord Mayor, he hopes to be able to raise awareness for mental health in our service personnel and veterans. Having previously served in the British Army Royal Armoured Corps, serving for six years with the 4th Royal Tank Regiment, this is an issue close to his heart.
Cllr Judge was also the Chair of Governors at St Paul’s High School, Wythenshawe, the school he attended. He quips that the “kid without any qualifications ensured that children from one of the most deprived areas in the city had access to good-quality education”.
Manchester City Council would also like to thank the outgoing Lord Mayor, Cllr Abid Latif Chohan for his service during his time as Lord Mayor, having continued the role for an extra six months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
