Temporary Covid-19 vaccination clinics are to be set up at two Longsight mosques as work continues to roll out the vaccine in Manchester.

As part of the wider vaccination programme, community venues as well as places of worship have been used by local healthcare teams.

This provides greater access for people who may not be able to travel to larger vaccination sites, as well as providing additional reassurance to residents who want to receive their jab in the community in which they live.

On Friday, March 19 the Makki Masjid in Beresford Road, will run a day clinic between 12pm – 5pm.

The following week on Friday, March 26 a second day clinic will be run at the Dar ul Uloom Masjid, in Hawkhurst Road between 12pm – 5pm.

The clinics will be open to local residents in Longsight who are over the age of 50, or under the age of 50 with a complex medical condition. Appointments can be arranged by following this link to a bi-lingual form.

At least two fully-equipped vaccination vans will be used on site where patients will go to get their jab.

Work is ongoing in Manchester to ensure that all communities have access to the vaccine, with officers and community volunteers speaking with residents to answer any questions they have, offer reassurance and quash any vaccination myths.

This will be a pilot scheme with the goal to vaccinate between 80-100 people each day. If this trial is successful the Council and local NHS will work to expand it to additional places of worship.

Councillor Bev Craig, Executive Member for Adult Health and Wellbeing, said: “We knew that throughout the roll out of the Covid-19 vaccine it would be essential that we continued to engage with our communities so we could reach as many people as possible. Making residents feel safe and secure when getting their jabs is incredibly important which is why I’m glad to see community schemes like this being trialled.

“The Council is committed to ensuring that no individual and no community is left behind as a result of Covid-19. Programmes like this are essential to address vaccine inequality and I hope any resident eligible for their vaccine will take it when offered.”
