Parents and guardians in Manchester only have a few days left to apply for a school place if their child is starting secondary school place in September 2022.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 1 November 2021.

This means all families with children in their final year of primary school need to apply for a secondary school place before the deadline.

The easiest way to apply is online and parents should have already received a letter with an identifying number to speed up the online process.

However, if a parent hasn’t received a letter, they can still apply online – it may just take a little longer.

Parents who miss the deadline will mean their child has less chance of getting a place at their preferred school.

Applicants should choose at least three preferred schools, which should be ranked in order of preference. This is important because available school places will be offered against the ranking in the application.

People who live outside of the city but need a school place in Manchester should apply through their home Council.

Applicants will find out which school place their child has been offered on National Offer Day on 19 April 2022

Cllr Garry Bridges, Manchester City Council’s executive member for children and schools, said:

“If you haven’t already, time really is running out to apply for a secondary school place. It takes very little time, but it could be one of the most important decisions you make for your child.

“Applying before the 5pm deadline on Monday could be the difference between being accepted to one of your preferred schools – or not. So, give yourself a bit of time to do some research about schools that are right for your child. And do include at least your top three school choices in the application - in order of preference. This will help inform the decision about which school your child will be placed in."
