Manchester City Council to provide fully accessible toilet at this year's Christmas Markets.
The fully accessible toilet is located next to the Queen Victoria statue in Winter Gardens (Piccadilly Gardens), right next to the hub of the Christmas Markets, so festive fun seekers with disabilities can enjoy the markets worry-free and at the same pace as other visitors.
The facilities, provided by Mobiloo, ensure that this year's Christmas Markets are inclusive for those who have a wide range of needs.
The toilet has a wash basin, adult-sized changing table, toilet, shower with track hoist and tail lift. It is also fully supervised by an attendant for support and the toilets will be cleaned after every use.
Although accessible toilet facilities have been available in the past, this is the first year that such extensive facilities like this have been offered on site, to help ensure visitors do not have to cut their visits short.
The Christmas Markets opened on the 12 November. Winter Gardens is the new hub of the markets and has a been transformed with bars, food stalls and – for the first time- a stage with live music throughout the festive season. Winter Gardens and all the stalls will be open every day until 3 January, from 10am till 9pm.
Councilor Pat Karney, Manchester’s Christmas Spokesperson said:
“This is a big moment for Manchester’s Christmas Markets. We have listened to people’s feedback and worked very hard to ensure that there are fully accessible toilets so that everyone can enjoy the festive season.
“We do not want people to feel excluded from the fun. We want people with disabilities to know that they can come to spend time in the markets and that there are facilities here to support them.”
Mandy from Mobiloo said:
“Mobiloo are so pleased to be at the Manchester Christmas Market, and I know from feedback received from users, that we are really appreciated.
“As a user once said to me, having access to a Mobiloo at events is the difference between staying at home or going out and having fun like everyone else does!.”
