Manchester’s public health chief, David Regan, has today issued an appeal to all community groups and representatives to ask any questions about Covid vaccinations and boosters.

The move comes after the Government announced on Sunday that all over 18s who had their second Covid vaccination more than 3 months ago (91 days) are now able to have their Covid booster.

To help with the drive in Manchester, the public health team and NHS colleagues are asking community representatives to share key details around the vaccination programme, as well as asking them to come forward with any questions or fears by ringing a dedicated free helpline on 0800 840 3858 or text 07890 036892. The helpline is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm and a translation service is available.

“Our community, neighbourhood and voluntary organisations are a vital part in how we all communicate - and understand local feeling - during the pandemic and I can’t thank them enough for what they have already done,” says David.

“We’re asking for help again with passing on this key information:

“Vaccines save lives – and it is never too late to come forward and have one and start getting the protection that they can give.

“In the meantime, if you have been vaccinated, it’s normal for that immunity to reduce over time. This means that the protection you get from your first two doses doesn’t last forever.

“And, at the moment, we know that two doses of the vaccine is not enough protection against the Omicron variant. But, the good news is that the boosters are very effective in bringing that protection back, to help prevent severe illness and death.

“That’s why vaccines are still our best defence against Covid and its variants.

“I’d urge you to pass this message to your communities, and for those who have any concerns please get in touch with us because we want to help.”
